It is an error that comes with the latest versions of Android such as Marshmallow and Nougat and there is no need to worry as we have the solution in our phone itself. Sometimes we may feel angry when opening any app as the messages Screen Overlay Detected pop up in the screen.

In this method, we disable the draw over other apps permissions of all apps to avoid the screen overlay detected error on the new app.  Just follow the basic steps to get rid of the error.

STEP 1: Open Settings of your Android Mobile (From notification bar or use the menu)

STEP 2: Go to Apps and touch on Apps option.

STEP 3: Touch on the Gear icon on the top right of the screen.

STEP 4: Select “Draw Over Others Apps” option.

STEP 5: Now you can see all the apps with the draw over other apps permission (select Apps With Permission from drop down list). In this step, you have to turn off permit drawing over others apps option for all the apps.

STEP 6: Now close all background apps in your mobile and clear every opened app. Then open the newly installed the app which you are getting the error. It will work fine and you won’t see the “Screen Overlay Detected” error.

STEP 7: You have to turn on the permit drawing over other apps option for all apps that turn off in step 5. Else that apps won’t work on your mobile and land in trouble.

You can turn off the permit drawing over other apps option for apps that you are not using. If you have apps such as clean master, speed booster etc, it is the primarily cause for the Screen Overlay Detected error and it is better to avoid them.

Method 2: Solve Screen Overlay Detected Error

The basic problem to the Screen Overlay Detected error is the use of apps such as clean master, Speed booster etc which floats or overlays on the phone. This method involves making some changes so as to avoid the problem.

  • Exit the apps such as Clean Master, Facebook Messenger etc (you can exit all apps in your background) before installing the new app. Sometimes the error won’t pop up if you are following this method.
  • Uninstall useless apps on your mobile phone, which floats such as Clean Master, Turbo Booster etc from your device.

This may work as we are clearing all background running apps on our phone.

For Samsung phones, the options are different as it is customised using “TouchWiz”. Just follow the simple steps to solve the error on your Samsung mobile phones.

STEP 1: First go to Settings on your Samsung mobile phone (From notification bar or use the menu)

STEP 2: Find the “Applications” and select the “Applications Manager” from the list.

STEP 3: Touch on the 3 dots on the top right corner and select the “Apps that can appear on top”, which will take you to the list of apps.

STEP 4: Disable the feature for all the apps shown and clear the background running apps on your device.

STEP 5: Install the new app on your device ( or open the app which have problem) and remember to enable the feature for all the apps (for those apps which we disabled on step 4)

Also the following things can cause the Screen Overlay Detected Error on your Samsung mobile phone. You can disable these features and can check whether it solves the problem.

  • Turn off one-handed operation if you are getting error while using one-handed feature.
